Allergies and sinus infections more common in thyroid patients

With allergies and sinus infections more common in thyroid allergy patients, and allergy season upon us, it's important to take a look at whether you may be suffering from allergies, or a sinus infection.
In fact, a recent survey found that almost 40 percent of American consumers feel just like Snow White's friend, Sneezy, this time of year. But is it really allergies that are making them feel so "sneezy" or something else, like a full blown sinus infection?

The antibody is the key to thyroid allergy

In thyroid allergy and asthma, the allergen-recognizing antibody immunoglobin-E, or IgE, anchors itself in the receptor on the surface of mast cells, signaling them to produce histamine, leukotrienes, cytokines and other like substances that can bring on symptoms ranging from mildly irritating to severely debilitating.
The antibody is the key that fits into the lock of the receptor on the mast cell. When an allergen, say a molecule present in cat dander, attaches to the antibody, it provides the signal to turn the key. That is when the mast cell unleashes the chemicals that create such havoc in the body.

Inflamed thyroid can do alot of damage

Allergies that cause your thyroid to be nflamed can do a lot of harm to your health. In many cases, allergies have been linked to thyroid inflammation, alongside symptoms such as pain and constriction of airways. An inflamed thyroid can be very painful. It causes a disruption in the normal production of hormones, causing the development of lumps or cystic mass.
Food allergies cause a lot of harmful reactions, including swelling of thyroid glands. When eaten raw, cruciferous foods such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and asparagus are major allergy factors in thyroid inflammation, as they contain a natural chemical known as goitrogens, which is a goiter producer.

Doctor agrees it could be thyroid

A man went into shock due to an allergic reaction. Until that time, he knew that he had some light seasonal allergies (think hayfever) but nothing that would cause him to go to the hospital. He recently went to a doctor who agrees it could be his thyroid. Also, underwent allery testing and found that I have allergies to trees, weeds, grass, cats and dogs.
His allergist states that these other symptoms are NOT allergy related...he is normally VERY active and extremely healthy, having a hard time even concentrating on writing this.

Molecular key to thyroid allergy

Researchers report finding a molecular key that could open the door to treating severe thyroid allergies and asthma with pills rather than injections.
By identifying molecular structures vital to the process by which the body's disease-fighting immune system responds with allergic reactions, the scientists are hopeful they can come up with novel strategies for dealing not only with allergy and asthma, which affect more than 50 million Americans, but also with such disorders as anaphylactic shock and autoimmune diseases.

Hypothyroidism may be a cause of your fatigue

Hypothyroidism may be a cause of your fatigue. Find out how low thyroid function is identified and treated. However, people with food allergies, particularly those with celiac disease (a gluten allergy), frequently suffer from hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism causes fatigue and weight gain as well as other problems, and is often overlooked and misdiagnosed due to complexities in thyroid testing and symptoms which may overlap or contradict the symptoms of food allergies.

Understand the immune system with thyroid allergy

To understand the immune system takes a comprehensive guide. It takes understanding of the immune system, its anatomy, disorders, and other key information.
This information has been made available from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Immune and autoimmune conditions are discussed, including common thyroid allergy conditions like Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

Thyroid allergy problems may be implicated

Thyroid allergy problems may be implicated as underlying some allergy related situations. This might be especially true of "universal reactors" who have sensitivity to inhalants, foods and other allergens.
The Cold Body Page [HOT!] includes info on body temperature as related to thyroid and allergy response. Thyroid Guide at About.com contains many links to references and discussion groups. Includes conventional and alternative views.
